Past Productions
Since 2013, participants have been taking part in writing and theatre exercises to explore their lives, gaining insight into their trials and triumphs, as well as the wisdom they have earned; and share a ten-minute performance with an audience of friends and family at the end of the course. Some graduates take the class again and again because they discover there is no end to the stories they have within them.
The Soulo Festival
Since its debut in 2013, the Soulo Festival has been a platform that encourages anyone interested in solo theatre — performers, writers, teachers, and audience members — to take a remarkable journey of storytelling and discovery. Typically five days in length, the festival is made up of new works by students and alumni from any or all of SoulOTheatre's courses as well as talks and workshops by veteran artists.
Some of our alumni have gone on to perform in the Toronto Fringe Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and have returned to the Soulo Festival as part of the Soulo Salon.
Dude for a Day
A workshop striving to empower women while asking them to find their inner dude. Dude for a Day began in 2014 when a group of women, both young and old gathered at the Gladstone hotel to learn what it meant to be a "dude for a day". With the help of makeup artist Rikki Zucker and photographer Fran Mazzarato, these fantastic characters were created.
"The male characters the group created were very human - not parodies or caricatures. They were flawed and infuriating sometimes but also vulnerable and sincere and charming."
- Joanna Latimer
Project Drag Queen
Tracey Erin Smith and Vicki Lix led a 10 Week Course called Project Drag Queen, with amazing guest celebrity teachers, helping new and experienced Drag Queen's weave their personal stories into their fabulous drag acts.
The final show at Church on Church made people laugh, cry and jump to their feet at the end!
